Moose M14 Cowl air ring seal

Post by Scott Aldrich » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:30 am

Has anyone added something to make a better seal around the aft air baffle
ring on their M14 cowl? I saw a picture of a Pitts Model 12 that had
strapped a soft rubber tube to the Russian baffle pads all the way around
the ring.

Anyone know how "tight" the YAK's fit? With ours there seems to be a pretty
good gap all around where it meets the cowl and then you use 1/8th inch
spacers on the back side when glassing in the ring leaving more space for
air to get through. Seems a lot of air can get around this??

Moose M14 Cowl air ring seal

Hi Scott,

I also have your concern about the ability of air to "leak around" the M-14
engine as MAM has you do the cowl. Have not run the engine yet but hopefully
before the snow flies (we'll see). If cooling is a concern then I will look
for a way to seal the outer ring. If there is a need I will post when the
time comes.

Catch you later,
Don B.

Thanks Don,
The first snow flew here today. My garage is too cold so I am puttering on
here driving people nuts.
