Hello!
I've completed one wing's flaperons on my Rebel, which required three
spacer/washers between the aileron hinge bracket and the rear spar. But now
on
the other wing I have three spacer washers and the aileron rubs against the
top skin overhang. I hesitate to put anymore washers there and wonder if I
could safely place washers only on the top bolt, making the pivot point drop
or I could bend the top skin away from the flaps.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan:
If you have already riveted the top skin this will be harder to
do....but....
The problem is that the top flange on the rear spar is bent too far. I
received mine from MAM in this condition. The fix is simple if you have
not riveted yet, just take about two two foot pieces of 2x4, clamp them to
this flange, and slightly bend it up, all along the length of the wing.
If you have riveted the top skin already, you may still be able to bend it
up somewhat, but it will be difficult. In that case you have two options,
one, bend up the trailing edge top skin to clear the flaperon, or two, cut
a little (very little) off the trailing edge top skin.
I agree, I would not add more spacers. MAM told me once that you could add
up to 3/16". No more. Please verify that with them before you take my
word on it.
Good luck!
Tim

Thank you Tim!
MAM said they themselves bend up the trailing edge. So much for design.
