I'm stumped on what's intended for flaperon control horn (CC-43) alignment.
MAM says 7 5/8" push-pull tube connected to the horn. I can't tell if that
is for the mid-wing horn, root horn, or both. And what really stumps me is
figure 80 in old MAM or 10.14.5 in the newer MAM, where the drawing appears
that the root and middle horns are at different angles from each other -- MAM
shows the middle one sticking roughly straight down while the root control
horn end is 1/2" above the bottom of the wing surface (up/down are reversed
in the figure cuz it shows the wing upside down). For on-line reference, I
put a copy of that figure at http://mae.ucdavis.edu/ransom/Murphy/flaphorn.gif

I can't picture why the root horn should be 1/2" above the bottom of the wing
while the flaperon is in recessed position. Does MAM mean for this to be
when the flaperon is in the full down position instead of 20Deg recessed (up)
position?

Things "look" like they should work if MAM means both control horns on the
torque tube are the same angle with respect to each other and both PP tubes
are the same length ...and figure 80 is just a bad dream.

This might go easier if I could call someone, but with luck, a note or two
here will straighten me out.

The 7 5/8" pushme pullme tube is for the mid wing. Just a cursory
comment but would it help your visualization to recall that the linkage
is designed to reflex the flaperons maybe 12 degrees above neutral plus
add up aileron movement to that. 10.14.5 looks correct to me.
The mid wing push tube extends horizontally and the fuselage push tubes
are vertical and several feet long.

Hi Ben !

You DO have the ailerons set up so the horn on the inboard aileron
is on the wingtip side, and the horn on the outboard aileron is on the
fuselage side, so both horns are in the center of the wing - DON'T YOU ???
That's where the P-P tube connects to BOTH horns ...

Double check the length of that short tube in the center of the
flapperons - I've seen comments in the archives that the manual might
be off by an inch or more.... right, Wayne ??

The picture looks OK - the root horn would only move UPWARD to
LOWER the aileron from THAT full reflex position - no problem for the
vertical pushrods in the cockpit..... It would appear that the horns on
opposite ends of the torque tube are about 90 degrees apart.

No, I was trying to figure this out with the wrong inboard flaperon section,
with its horn on the root end! (Had wondered about the correct orientation
earlier -- forget why I moved on to the wrong idea.)

My 1994 MAM calls for 8 1/8", the 1999 MAM calls it 7 5/8", and there is a
*.doc on the CD that indicates all the PP tube measurements are approximate.
The picture looks OK - the root horn would only move UPWARD to
