Rebel #687 came with seatframes having the 12-13 inch high diagonal. I posted
a photo to the Rebel-Interiors archives if anyone is interested. I built them
per the builder's manual with the aluminum back pan riveted to the back side
of the seatback frame.

Broken Seat back
Broken Seat back
Hi All
Sorry this is a few days after topic - just back from 2 weeks in Scotland
(including 30 mins in a strait float Cub :-) )
Elite 745E also came with the 12 inch seat back diagonal support (shipped
about April last year). The skin is to be attached to the REAR of the frame.
Am I correct in assuming no-one has had a problem with this design ?. I
guess the holes at the rear of the tubing will produce less weakening than
holes at the front would do.
Thanks
Nigel

Broken Seat back
Nigel
Several years ago landing near home the Maule tail wheel broke off our Rebel
049.After removing the tail wheel I brake-taxied with the tail in the air to
take-off and land at our home strip. While taxiing up to the hanger the seat
back failed from the force I was exerting to keep the tail up and negotiate
the turns. The skin tore off the frame.I remade a heavier seat back and
looped a 4"wide piece of .025 around the frame at the lumbar area to prevent
a reoccurrence...........Angus
