Rebel cargo tie downs

Post by klehman » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:27 pm

Hi

I am still contemplating what sort of tie down provisions to install.
Since I installed the full floor I have to have some way to tie things down back
there.

Best practical idea I have so far is just some diamond shaped aluminum plates
riveted onto the bulkheads at the top of the corner wraps. I would leave a half
inch hole (for a rope) in the plate above the corner wrap, forward of the
bulkhead. Something retractable on the floor might be better though. Anybody
got any ideas?

thanks
Ken

Rebel cargo tie downs

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:27 pm

Hi, Ken !

Have seen some really slick baggage tie-downs that fold flush into the
floor - I think they are on Tobey Riley's Rebel. (Now George Christie's )

I think he got them from a marine supply place - boat stuff is only 1/3
as expensive as aircraft stuff - but still 5 times as much as automotive !!

We use various sizes & thicknesses of bungee cords with hooks for
luggage tie downs, and strategically located holes in bulkheads, some with
doublers. The seat belt attachments are also excellent places to fasten
the ends of these bungees... We use a cargo net, or a couple of lawn
chairs on top of the baggage, as an over-all holder-downer - the bungees
then hold the chairs.

Some simple V -shaped brackets fastened to the floor can also work -
but use thick aluminum, and file the edges well !! (Sad experiences with
slashed fingers ..... :-( )

The bungees can put some heavy loads on the tie-downs - and can cause
damage if the fastener fails !
