Customs & such

UPS - "Unbelievably Priced Service"

UPS - "Unfortunately Package (is) Smashed"

UPS - "Unwanted Processing Surcharges"

Anyway you put it UPS sucks big time on cross border shipping (and most
times in the country as well!). Have never received a packaged from the USA
with less than a $27.50 brokerage fee (sometimes as high as $60 to do the
same paperwork) along with collecting the taxes on behalf of the government.

My son showed me a FedEx bill on Saturday for a package he got from the USA
and at least they were only $7.50 for brokerage fees. Still not as good as
good old Canada Post at $5, but don't forget UPS still has a lawsuit going
against CPost for this and therefore it may change in time as well.

I've never had anything under $50. plus gst on any UPS shipment. Ordered
all the parts I needed to overahul an 0-320. Received four different
parcels thru the post office at $5.00 each plus GST. Told the shipper and
received a re-embursement for 3 of the four. They forgot a sump gasket in
the kit and sent it UPS. Gasket was worth about 6.50 us and the ups bill
at
the front door was around 54.00. Told them to send it back. As Gordon
says,
good fashioned mail is the best.

I never use UPS for trans-border shipping. They charge an extra
"brokerage fee" of up to $25 for handling the item even if it is a gift.
Also I've never received a package by UPS that they didn't either delay
for weeks or otherwise mess up. Good old fashioned mail is best and
cheapest in the long run.

I am in Canada and we ship to the US, we have been routinely been having
to go through this, the couriers demand it and I suppose the State
Department or IRS or one of those are demanding it of the couriers. I
don't think there is a way around it.

Cheers,

Dave

O.K. folks....just a question about shipping seats.
Murphy informed me, after I ordered seat covers, that to get them
through US customs, I have to give US Customs a US Tax ID or my SSN.
Has anyone gone up against this or am I the test case? With all the
hoopla about theft identity I'm at odds with this policy or rule. Paul

I recently purchased Murphy's leather seats. I bought them because
they
were
cheap. I got cheaply made seats.

IMO buy the Oregon Aero.

Used to be all customs wanted was a phone number. But now they want someone
to be responsible for the package. Hence the SSN. Just the new homeland
security.
