backwards into my hangar. For normal taxiing and parking you
don't need it, as long as the front wheels are left in the
forward position.
It shouldn't take that much muscle to cycle your gear. I can't
remember exactly what my pressure is, but I think when it hits
above 50, I have reached full down or up. Is everything greased
well, and are you sure nothing is binding? Are you using the
right hydraulic oil, ie Dextron III? Which way is your handle?
Mine is pointing to the front so my hand is close to my knee
where I am sitting, and seems to be a good leverage position.
Also, when it is cold out, it does take a little more effort,
because everything is a little stiffer.
Be sure your pump is very securely fixed to the floor, or you
will soon be breaking rivets or something.
You'll definitely have to fix that front cylinder, though.

Subject: Re: PVC cylinder shaft spacer for amphibs
Hi Walter
What is the purpose of the PVC tube you slide over
your front cylinder shaft
on the amphibs when the gear is down? Is it to prevent
the gear collapsing in
the event the pressure bleeds off while and your
pushing the plane around?
I got the gear cycled for the first time on the
amphibs today and found the
right front cylinder is leaking out the shaft. Bad O
ring maybe? I left it
alone hoping the next time I'm there it will somehow
fix itself. Wishful thinking
I guess.
I was a little surprised at the amount of muscle it
takes to pump the gear
and I only pumped it to 100lbs. Because I wanted the
hoses to exit the pump to
the rear I reversed the handle and turned the pump
around so I have pressure on
the up stroke. I had better start lifting weights to
strengthen my biceps.
