Winter comfort

One option for cold weather flying would be the 100 watt electric suits
available for motorcyclists. They are thin enough to be unobtrusive in
use. We included a lighter plugs and 10 amp breakers for these at each
side of our panel. The suits put the heat on you, where it is needed,
and they do work. Mine is a Gerbings, made to measure and is used with
a thermostat. Gerbings also has heated gloves and boots but watch the
total amp draw. You can get more information at www.gerbings.com
There are also other manufacturers which I have no experience with.

Winter comfort

Hi, Ralph. well, that's one option I hadn't thought of. However, I may put
an IFR panel in mine, as I'd hate not to be able to file on the odd occasion
when the weather gets low, so it'd be nice to keep the instruments warm too.

One option that occurred to me was the old VW gas heaters. I have a
Janitrol heater on my PA30 which puts out a fierce amount of heat. I did a
Google search and came up with a modern day equivalent which is about 12" x
4" x 4" and puts out 3KW. That's probably not a lot in a drafty cabin.
Costs $950 Cdn, which is no doubt lesss than a certified muffler. I'm just
wondering whether to order the Murphy exhaust system when I get the FWF kit.
