M-14 Air Start

Post by Steve Halvorsen » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:01 am

We are about to place an order for the M-14PF engine and am wondering the
best way to go on the start system. AIR or ELECTRIC? ? ? ?
Anybody know of any problems with the electric start. I know that the
original engine was built for an air start system, but is the electric a
better way? ?

Any Pro's and Con's would be appreciated.

My understanding is in the end the cost is about equal. MAN hopes that
everyone starts to get the electric start. Maybe they have problems with
their engine, I don't know.

I've talked to a few owners of planes with that engine and they say the air
is a good choice and they have not had any problems except for the air tank
to leak down and they have to refill to get started.

Hi Steve,

I suggest you talk to George Coy. The electric start was not available when
we bought our engine from George. George will know how the systems compare.
