Cruise Speed - Rebel

Post by Walter Klatt » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:00 am

Hey, Wayne, at least we got you up again. I know you don't care
about speed, and agree that's not why we built these Rebels. You
posted some good data, though, for those RPM's and speeds.
However, you didn't post your 2675 speed and just wondering what
that worked out to. Just curious, and not trying to force you to
go up again just for that if you don't have it. ;>)

Probably about 8USgph Dave!! I'll dip the tanks

burned. I think I can remember where they were before

My prop is at 11.5* (with the protactor flush with the
tip end). I used to
run my 100hp x O-235C with the same prop set at 9.5*

Nice report, Wayne..thanks. Any idea what the fuel
burn was at any of the
particular settings?
I also run a 70" Warp on my tired old 0-235C and
have it set at 9 deg or
so. Cruise is about
90 mph consuming 20 l per hour or about 5.5 gal U.S
. What pitch was used
in these tests?

Gave myself a slap today and went flying for 45
minutes before the storm
hit. With all this talk about how fast everyone's
Rebels go I thought
I'd
see what mine really does, for the first time in 8
years! Never really
cared
....as never been in much of a hurry to get
anywhere (except like I said
the
other day when being chased by a front!).

Mine has Lycoming O-320-C2A x 150 HP - Warp Drive
3 Blade 70" propellor,
6.00 x 6 tires, Wheel pants >OFF<, gear legs
faired (but dirty trailing
edge
of the round tube), 12" compression spring struts
unfaired, normal cub
style
cowl bowl. With full throttle pushed in I can
obtain 2675RPM in level
flight
and no more! Note that with the prop at this pitch
I got off the ground
today, into a 5kt breeze, from a muddy wet strip
in 325 feet using 14*
of
flaperon!!

I flew N/S/W/E on GPS and added the sum and
divided by 4. All done at
2200ASL Aircraft total weight approximately 1340 lbs

2450RPM with 0 flap/reflex yielded 96.5Knots (111Mph)
2550RPM with 0 flap/reflex yielded 100.25Knots (115Mph)
2550RPM with 6* reflex position yielded
100.75Knots (116Mph)
2550RPM with 12* reflex position yielded 103.5
Knots (119Mph)
Cheers,
Wayne

Hadn't been flying for a month and that flight was a big 2 minutes each way
to my neighbours strip, so thought it was about time I burnt some fuel (and
remind myself why I'm in this "racket")! Wayne

Gave myself a slap today and went flying for 45 minutes before the storm
hit. With all this talk about how fast everyone's Rebels go I thought
I'd
see what mine really does, for the first time in 8 years! Never really
cared
....as never been in much of a hurry to get anywhere (except like I said
the
other day when being chased by a front!).

Mine has Lycoming O-320-C2A x 150 HP - Warp Drive 3 Blade 70" propellor,
6.00 x 6 tires, Wheel pants >OFF<, gear legs faired (but dirty trailing
edge
of the round tube), 12" compression spring struts unfaired, normal cub
style
cowl bowl. With full throttle pushed in I can obtain 2675RPM in level
flight
and no more! Note that with the prop at this pitch I got off the ground
today, into a 5kt breeze, from a muddy wet strip in 325 feet using 14*
of
flaperon!!

I flew N/S/W/E on GPS and added the sum and divided by 4. All done at
2200ASL Aircraft total weight approximately 1340 lbs

2450RPM with 0 flap/reflex yielded 96.5Knots (111Mph)
2550RPM with 0 flap/reflex yielded 100.25Knots (115Mph)
2550RPM with 6* reflex position yielded 100.75Knots (116Mph)
2550RPM with 12* reflex position yielded 103.5 Knots (119Mph)

Cheers,
Wayne

Wayne G. O'Shea

Cruise Speed - Rebel

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:00 am

Well it raining right now at about 22mm/hr according to the sound on the
metal roof and the weather radar (and besides it pitch dark at this end of
the country) and calling for gusting 60K tomorrow and 15cm of snow, so as
much as I'd like to it ain't going to happen this week! I did take a peak
while wound out to 2675 with the flaperons still in full reflex and at the
most I think I picked up 2 knots.

Hey, Wayne, at least we got you up again. I know you don't care
about speed, and agree that's not why we built these Rebels. You
posted some good data, though, for those RPM's and speeds.
However, you didn't post your 2675 speed and just wondering what
that worked out to. Just curious, and not trying to force you to
go up again just for that if you don't have it. ;>)

I never cared how fast my airplane went and now
someone wants to know how
much fuel I burnt!!!!!!! You guys are getting toooooo
complicated for me!
:O)))

Probably about 8USgph Dave!! I'll dip the tanks
tomorrow and see what I
burned. I think I can remember where they were before
I took off.

My prop is at 11.5* (with the protactor flush with the
tip end). I used to
run my 100hp x O-235C with the same prop set at 9.5*

Nice report, Wayne..thanks. Any idea what the fuel
burn was at any of the
particular settings?
I also run a 70" Warp on my tired old 0-235C and
have it set at 9 deg or
so. Cruise is about
90 mph consuming 20 l per hour or about 5.5 gal U.S
. What pitch was used
in these tests?
