Russian Composite floats

Post by George Coy » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

I recently uploaded a pix of a Russian Yak-12 on Russian made composite
floats. I have since ordered two sets of these from the Russian manufacturer
for evaluation. They are in the 3600 lb range and from the reports I receive
weigh in around 185 KG.. They are said to perform well on the slow high lift
Yak-12. It also looks like they can retail in the $20,000 range (without
rigging). I will keep the list informed as things progress. I have a lot of
experience in dealing in Russia and have long ago learned not to hold my
breath too long.

Russian Composite floats

Here's a lad bringing in Comp floats from Russia for the Yak 12 which is about the size of
a Moose. Thought this might be of interest since Wayne's recent post. George Coy ( Gesoco )
is in Vermont and sells Vendenyev MP-14 engines and the like.

Dave Stroud, Ottawa, Canada
Christavia Mk 1 C-FDWS
Fairchild 51, early construction

Wayne G. O'Shea

Russian Composite floats

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Competition is a good thing Dave!! It keeps everyone in check! Note that I
have no financial gain/loss in the CLAMAR float construction and am just
offering the latest "news" to the guys and at the most I'd make my labour
rate installing them for anyone on a Moose in the local area (that didn't
have the facilities/faculties to do it themselves)! I got involved with
Clair Sceli (CEO CLAMAR) in the early stages, before he had popped out his
first production set of floats, in the hopes that he would make some nice
light 1800's for our Murphy fleet. After our meeting in London he decided
that he didn't want to make a smaller size than the 2250's and now we
continue to bounce ideas off each other for upgrades and public "wants and
needs". The 3500's was an example of this and we will see where it goes from
here.

Cheers,
Wayne
