Just an update on my progress; I have made today a decision on an engine for
my aircraft even though I probably will not need it for another two years. I
have acquired an 0320 H2AD; first life, TT1920, with log books, complete
with carb, magnetos etc, except no alternator, for a great price, $AUS4000
cash. My L.A.M.E. who looks after my existing aircraft had taken it out of a
172. The compressions are good. He suggest that I may get another 300 to 400
hours and to run it on condition. I know that there are two camps for the
H2AD; those who love them and those who hate them. But the price was too
good to let go and besides I trust the advice of my L.A.M.E. He even does
the first check flight when he does anything major to my aircraft.
So now I have a big incentive to start on my wings.
So Wayne how do I get $US33 cash to you????

Sounds like you got a great deal, Greg. I also started
flying my Rebel with a high time engine and then had it
overhauled after about 50 hours. The advantage is that
you can ground run and test it all you want before your
first flight. An overhauled engine, on the other hand,
needs to be run hard during the initial break-in.

Don't want to disappoint you but you are following in my footsteps. I am
taking my almost finished rebel to the airport this weekend for final
assembly and inspection. Will be joining the ranks of the airborne very
soon. If anyone deserves it, I think I've put in my time. Eight years and
two moves later.

conical mount reworked to clear the "hump" on the rear top of the engine.
This was done by cutting out the curved upper pipe and replacing it with a
piece with more arc to it. Also I am using the original one piece dual mag.
I built an access box on the firewall to make removal possible without
removing the engine. The box has a cover bolted on from inside the cockpit.
I also added a remote (airwolf) oil filter system which made oil changing
much easier, as the original screw on rear filter adapter would not
accommodate proper filters-not enough clearance to the firewall. I also
incorporated all of Wayne's firewall float fixes to stiffen every thing up.
When you get closer to fuselage construction and would like detailed
pictures of all of the above-let me know.- There isn't any part of my
construction un-documented in picture form. Definitely keep at it-it is

Sorry, My last message on the O320 H2AD should have been directed to Greg.
One important point Greg. My O320 H2AD had been removed at 1570 hrs due to a
cam shaft problem these engines where noted for. Mine had been rebuilt
before I installed it.-Please check yours now so you have lots of time if a
rebuild is necessary. Bob J Rebel "652"

Hey Bob,

I expected you would also mention to Greg the "pre-start" manual
pressure oiler you installed. Wasn't that supposed to help with a
known problem on these engines?

Hello Bob & others,
Thanks very much for the advice; I will certain take it on board so when I
next see my L.A.M.E. I will take up your comments with him. Also when I get
to the installation stage (two years!!) then I will be contacting you.
The Gods must be similing on me at the moment. Rick Harper, now that I have
gone down the Lyco road, has kindly offered to sell me a heap of FWF gear
removed from his Rebel, for his engine upgrade; so it looks like I now have
a nose bowl, cowling, engine mount/frame, spinner and an almost zero timed
metal prop if it is suitable. I think that I better buy a lottery ticket!!!
