Condolences

[Wayne G. O'Shea]

I would like to take this time to express our sincere condolences, from the
entire Murphy Builders "family", to Jeffrey Steenson and his entire family
due to the tragic loss of his Father on Sunday November the 3rd, 2002. Our
hearts go out to them, during this extremely difficult time for their
family.

Jeffrey's dad was shuttling their 2001 Cirrus from his home in North Dakota,
to Jeffrey's home in Albuquerque New Mexico for the winter. Jeffrey talked
with him by cell phone about an hour and a half out of NM with and "all
smooth" conversation. Unfortunately after this conversation his father
didn't arrive and had crashed in Northern New Mexico a short time later, due
to unknown circumstances.

Funeral services are this weekend in North Dakota and needless to say
Jeffrey will not be attending the builders meeting in Brampton as he had
previously planned.

Hang in there Mike and pass on our Condolences on behalf of EVERYONE on the
list.

You'll have a big empty "hole" inside for a long time. As you know I lost my
best aviation friend last September and there isn't a single day that he
doesn't cross my mind.

With regard to Rob's plans for his Moose I have very bad news to report.
Rob was in a car crash in Seattle and was very badly injured. He had a
living will that his wife decided to honor last night. By now Rob is

gone.

We have lost an exceptional builder, and an exceptional man. I will

to the turbine questions at a later date.

you or Rob talked to MAM about going this route?

I talked to Brian today and found that the Moose has a VNE of 189mph.

Have

you guys given any thought about this. Also he said that the Moose was

only

designed for 400HP.

The Walter will turn out 657 HP full bore and cruse at 350 / 400 HP.

With

the sleek nose for the turbine do you believe the speed would go WAY

above

the 189 VNE?

There is a complete firewall forward kit avail. for about 58K, that does

not

include an engine rebuild for 18K. Aerocomp is offering the package for
their kits. The web site is

look

at

it but I haven't figured out yet if the Moose can handle it without a

lot

of

mods.

What do you or anyone else think about this? ? ? ? ?
Open for any suggestions. We're looking at it to get some faster speed

cross country travel but still have the utility for dropping in where we
want to.

Rob Merdes, here in Fairbanks, has a plan to convert to a turbine
eventually. He and I are putting in aluminum V8s initially. I will

stay

with my V8 and Rob will convert to a turbine later. Of course, if a

good

turbine deal pops up, he'll just bypass the V8 and go right to the

turbine.

Long before there was a 120 gallon option on the Moose Rob set his wings

up

to be almost completely wet except where there's stuff in the way like

the

aileron push-pull tube. He has separate fuel lines for inboard and

outboard

tanks that will feed to a manifold with individual shutoff valves prior

to

where the fuel is joined. He is just using a left-right-both fuel

selector

valve. The shutoff valves will normally all be left open unless there

is

an

emergency.
