Hi Rebel Group!
I am looking for a propeller for two rebels . Here in Germany noise is a
serious problem to get your flight permission by the German LBA (Luftfahrt
Bundesamt ).Many microlights use Warp props here.
Questions:
1. Any information on 3 or 4 blade Warp Prop for 100 HP Rotax 912S
2. Any information on 3 or 4 blade Warp Prop for 160 HP O-320
Diameter ? Pitch ? Climb rate ? Cruising Speed / RPM ?
Phone number Warp ??
Regards Johannes

For the 912-S, you could probably still use a GSC wood prop, with the
epoxy leading edge. The 2 blades are better than the 3 blades, if you can
get away with it from a noise perspective (should be OK). 72 inch dia., "M"
blades, ground adjustable, (or in-flight adjustable, for a LOT more money
!!)
If you do go with the Warp Drive, consider the same prop as the O-320's,
in a 3 blade, but set at a finer pitch. (GSC's are a lot cheaper !)

For the O-320's, the consensus seems to be overwhelmingly in favour
of the Warp Drive 3 blade, 72 inch dia., with 17" of nickel leading edge,
and SQUARE tips (NOT tapered !). Usually set in the 12 1/2 to 13 1/2
degree range....

A few have been talked into the 4 blades for higher powered engines
- NOT a good idea !! Too much drag on descent (can't get below 2,500 rpm
!!!),
and a lot of load on the engine - hard to get the right pitch setting...
Stay with the 3 blade Warp Drive - most folks here just LOVE them !!
W-D have proven to be a VERY good company to deal with - several have
exchanged their 4 blades for 3 blades, at VERY reasonable cost, even
after a season of flying !!

Bob,

I'm one of those who got talked into a 4-blade Warp prop, as you said.

The arguments were:
- less HP per blade (apparently there is a chance of damaging the blades
with a 3-blade prop on a 160hp engine)
- less noise (68" vs. 72" diameter makes a big difference)

In Germany many people fly happily with 4 blades even 5 and 6 blade props
are common, all because of noise.
The German prop manufacturers insist that there is no big performance
penalty with multi-blade props, if any.
I just don't like to spend the money for a German MT prop (which you find
on the Extras).

Bob, can you give me the names and addresses of the Rebel fellows who
exchanged their 4 blade against a 3 blade Warp.
I'd like to understand the implications. Thanks.

Stefan Pappe, Heidelberg, Germany, Rebel 156

I have run a 4 blade on my Rebel for the last year and have been very
satisfied. I will probably try the 3 blade this year to see the
difference if any.
