Re: Facebook

Didn't even know there was a facebook group. Wouldn't matter, I don't use it for any reason.

Re: Smoky factory visit

No, Murphy still owns it. In fact Daryl was working on it when we got there. It was good since we were able to talk about the best way to assemble some of the structures and some flush riveting recommendations on the wing.

Re: Smoky factory visit

Smoke was a little thinner on the ground by Friday. Was interesting to see the factory and meet Daryl. That monster (4000 ton I think) press is an amazing piece of equipment. Didn't get a direct picture of the press but you can see the top in this shot. IMG_0987.JPG plus seeing some sweet bush wheel...

Smoky factory visit

I'm out west and will be in the area of the factory on Friday and will pay them a visit. How is the smoke in the Abbotsford-Chilliwack area right now? The METARs are paining a pretty grim picture with all the forest fires.

Re: Frustrated with Seat Adjusting Mechanism

If you have any RC glider clubs in your area that do winch launching ask them where they get their rings. A big 3m glider will generate almost 300 pounds of line tension during the launch so they need pretty solid split rings.

Re: Fixing gouges

Unfortunately the only picture I have is after polishing out the gouge so it isn't visible, just the polished area. I was drilling the third hole from the right on the top row. The gouge was left by the outer edge of the chuck teeth on the drill, not the bit. On the Sioux air dills the chuck teeth a...

Re: Fixing gouges

I forgot to take a photo before polishing it out. I measured the thickness at the narrowest point this evening and it is .0443 where the base sheet is .0483. That's almost 10% of the metal gone, I'll check my measurements but I suspect it is toast.
Here it is after polishing:

Fixing gouges

Had a slip yesterday when I thought the backing block was under the drill and it wasn't. Hole is good but left a nice sharp crescent in the rear fin spar surface, well past the "snag your thumbnail depth". I know the fix is to smooth it out to prevent it from being a stress concentrator but how deep...

Brushable primer

For my Radical build I’ve decided to only prime internally along where surfaces overlap/join. The plane will spend most summers on floats but will see very little, if any, salt water. It looks to me that to assemble the pieces with the primer still wet it would be a lot easier to brush it on. What’s...
