Re: Mating surface primer

In a dry climate like Utah you may not have too much concern with the Alodine Coating. For raw aluminum , I still primed mating surfaces on my Yukon( but not any other area) in Colorado. I first used Zinc Chromate but switched to Rust-o-leum Self Etching Primer. The Rust-o-leum sticks to the aluminu...

Re: Trike Nose Gear issue

Jeff, Thanks, factory has shipped a Nose Gear Housing with Bushings installed. I'll ream it to 1.500 after I get it.
I've also fab'd and designed a new Pinned Cap for Pivot to limit turn to 45deg. This should avoid landing with the gear a full 90 sideways.

Trike Nose Gear issue

Has anyone else had any issue with the Trike Nose Gear on Rebels,Yukon or Moose? I just had an issue with the free mastering Yukon Nose Gear that is set with torqueing the axial bolt to provide some pivot resistance to avoid Shimming. The flight had moderate turbulence and at Touchdown the Nose Gear...

Re: MAM factory extended wing tips

The Droop tips are also the same on the Yukon. I had previously posted the internal stringers and spar extensions under Yukon section in the Builders Forum. The seams were very thin and I added 2 layers of 3" wide fiberglass cloth the inside of the tips along full length of the seams. The back trail...

Re: Custom Trike Tow Bar

Yeah, some builders are proud they built an airplane only with hand tools and not even a drill press. I must be lazy or more demanding of precision. I am glad I have Lathe, Mill , Gas and TIG Welders. I am a rare Mechanical Engineer that likes to learn trade skills. After College instead of buying f...

Custom Trike Tow Bar

Didn't see a good fit for standard tow bar designs for the Nose Gear axle on my Yukon so I made custom design to hook over O.D. of axle nut. Tow Bar.jpg Main square tube is 2x2x.125 wall 6061-T6 with 2" ball Receiver. Tow Bar Hook Open Clip.jpg The Tow Hook is riveted of 2 layers of 1/8" flat stock ...

Engine Isolators for IO390 with Dynafocal 1 Mount

Folks, Can anyone share the engine isolator mounts they are using if they have a IO390 on the Dynafocal 1 mount. I requested info from Parker-Lord for my Yukon and they don't have listings for IO390 and don't specify for experimental. The Murphy engine mount I received looks to be correct as a Dynaf...

Re: Inspection Cover Template

Monty, I don't have a template but you could make a symmetrical covers by making 2 oval shapes and drill one quadrant with holes and then flip the one plate about long axis , drill the mirror half then flip about the short axis and drill the bottom half of holes. For my normal round templates in the...

Rudder Cable Sealing at Firewall

Not sure what other folks have done but on Yukon and Moose , the rudder pulleys are on engine side of firewall with slots cut for the cables to pass through into floor of cabin. This provides a big access for fumes to get under cabin floor , since the area around joystick is not sealed, it would pas...

Re: Droop Wing Tip internal support

Paul, Sorry for late reply, I don't have email notification setup with the forum so didn't see your questions. I cut tip with 0.040" abrasive cutoff disc in 4.5" did angle grinder. Yes I did set up the tip with aileron in the 5 deg reflex. I put the tips on when the wing was my assembly table. I put...

Droop Wing Tip internal support

I modified and added Spar extensions to help stiffen the Fiberglas Droop tip on my Yukon, The aft end of the wingtip was quite floppy with just the spade box support as mentioned in my Moose manual. 1) First of all I was not furnished any Spar Extensions for the Wing Tips so bent my own up with 0.03...

Seat Frames not square

A word of caution. Set up Seat Tracks and seat frames on bench setup to trial fit before installing in fuselage. Seat Tracks.JPG I found both bucket seat frames were not square from front to back. The back feet center to center distance was 5/32" narrower than the front feet. So when the seat frames...
