Re: Matco master cylinder intensifier
I talked to Matco about the intensifiers a couple of years ago, and he strongly advised me to not use them.

Re: Floats
I assume you’re talking about the shaft o-ring? If you are using Dexron II you can use nitrile o-rings, but if you are using Dexron III you need Viton fluoroelastomer o-rings. It seems that the synthetic blend of III causes the nitrile to break down. What I have also found is that the actual dimensi...

RF interference
I am having a problem with RF interference with the Ray Allen trim indicator. The trim servo and indicator work fine, but when I key the mic on the radio, the bright bar on the trim indicator changes to 2 or 3 very dim bars. I am using the Garmin GTR 200 radio that puts out 10 watts of power. I have...

Re: Planning for ADSB
Thanks for your input Rob. The UAT 978 antenna is only $16 compared to $27 for the 1090MHz. It's not the degradation of reception that is the issue. The ADS600-EXP is a transmitter and the antenna transmits better with the correct tuning and standing wave. It's not a big issue in most cases. Like I ...

Re: Planning for ADSB
Jerry, I also installed the ADS600-EXP, but I installed the STX-165 transponder/encoder unit as well. The ADS600 gets the data directly from the STX-165 via RS232. I'm using a Garmin GDL 39 3D with Garmin Pilot and have an iPad Air II mounted in the center of the panel and an iPad mini mounted on th...

Re: Paint
I've seen pics of your plane and it looks spotless. Are you telling me you have never waxed your plane? :wtf:

Re: Paint
I thought about that, but the plane will be hangared when not flown, unless I'm on a long trip. Also, I was told by an engineer at PPG that a coat of wax will help keep it from fading. A lot of the pilots around here use Rejex by the Corrosion X people. I think it is a polymer that helps protect the...

Re: Paint
Thanks Wayne. I have the flaperons set really good for alignment and top skin clearance. The color is going to be GM bright red (used on Corvettes before Victory Red became the color of choice) with semi-gloss black tips and leading edges and maybe some white stripe between the colors (not sure abou...

Re: Paint
It's almost time to paint the exterior on Rebel 729! I am planning to paint all major pieces separately then assemble. The paint I will use is PPG single stage urethane over PPG epoxy primer. The question I have is: How should I deal with the hinges on the stab/elev and fin/rudder? Since they have a...

Could this be the plane you are talking about?

Re: Anti-Corrosion Options
Good idea! For those really hard to get at areas a wand works good. I was thinking about rigging up garden sprayer or some sort of easy to buy sprayer and making a long wand from an old pressure washer wand. Right now, I primed the whole internal surfaces of the tail structures and will prime all th...

Re: Anti-Corrosion Options
Randy, when you say everywhere, do you mean outside of structures as well as inside? Like Craig and I mentioned, Corrosion X adheres really well and is hard to completely remove after application. Don't put on anything you will be repainting unless you can clean effectively before painting. As for a...

Re: Anti-Corrosion Options
Here's my 2 cents worth on the subject of corrision and prevention in general. I've been around planes for 40+ years, but relatively new to building, so I will limit my info to corrision and salt water as it pertains to boats. I have had offshore boats in the Florida Keys for 38 yrs and experienced ...

Re: Float Plane - Corrosion protection
I use the 420/430 primer with a $30 Harbor Freight HVLP spray gun and it works great, so does PPG ShopLine primer. Just be sure to mix the parts like it says on the can. It's really easy to get it too thin so be careful on the proportions. Set the gun for a light spray or misting just enough to cove...
