Aircraft Rigging
Just wanted to share something with the masses. I see way too may guys running for a hunk of aluminum and riveting a big ass trim tab on the rudder as a quick fix, instead of just figuring out what is causing the need for some rudder in the first place. Is it the fact that you have one rudder pedal ...

Re: Paint
I've washed it twice in 20 years! Never waxed. That said my wing tops have gone chalky and I'm going to have to put some time in and take some nufinish or similar to them.

Re: Paint

Re: Water Tight Floats
BTW.. those little compartments should have drain holes at the fwd end that allow the compartment to drain into the step compartment.

Re: Water Tight Floats
I've never had any issues there Eric and I have left my airplane sitting at the dock for over 6 weeks before. The way that goes together, the clearance should be so slight between the bolt and the spacer sleeve that with a good coat of grease on the bolt no water should venture sideways there. That ...

Re: Paint
Nice.. the only thing I would caution and for you to give thought to, if the airplane is going to be tied down outside red is a terrible colour for the top surfaces of wings and stab due to paint fade. All the colours probably fade somewhat, but red is the one that shows it terribly by looking chalky.

Re: Paint
For the flaperons Doc.. tape off the bronze bushing's round face (across the hole). The whole idea is for the bronze bushing to ride on the steel sleeve so make sure you have those all operating smoothly and set them aside. The hangar bracket.. the steel sleeves get bolted up tight to it, so if you ...

Re: EarthX batteries
Quite timely... here's a Mandatory Service Bulletin that just came out from Rotax tonight. I found out the hard way what that third wire on the cordless drill battery chargers are for, when mine died and I just slapped a 18V x 500ma power supply to my battery pack. Forgot about it in the shop and wh...

Re: Sub-Instrument Panel
Oh.. and YES Jerry... if you do just a center extension riveted up to the bottom of the existing panel, it will need a few braces on it or she'll flex back and forth when using the throttle unless you have the friction backed right off to nil on same.

Re: Sub-Instrument Panel
Craig's talking about the Rebel / Elite... the entire control column is on the floor, not buried like the SR. No matter how much planning... you'll spend hours like this, especially when you're in the refurb business. The first thing I do is drill the column off the floor. And for those still doing ...

Re: private airstrips
As I said.. there are changes in the works.. get your buddy going NOW.
That said, he is an existing aerodrome and building a hangar will not change the level of "service" or "usage".

Be sure to skip the part in COPA's guide that says to go to the municipality first and tell them what you are doing!

Re: private airstrips
Tell him to get at it quick Mike as times are a changing. Proposals are in the works to turn aerodromes over to local authorities. Currently they are still covered by precedence and the "Province, County, Municipality, City or Town has no constitution capacity to assess planning power over an aerodr...

Also probably a good idea to remind everyone that there is a "Classifieds" section as well. Not sure how Dave's happy post got turned into a for sale thread, but I guess I'm not a lot better at thread "creep" ! ![Tongue :P](./images/smilies/10.gif)

Re: Electronic "mags"
Well I finally got a day out of the madness that we call life here and tried out my new buzz box and TDC tool that snaps on the spinner with elastics. Perfect day in the hangar for January, at +2C. Was sceptical about the TDC tool, but it worked like a dream and with ease.... and I was also able to ...
