Re: rivet size question

Rivets are described by diameter and grip length. it reads - 1/4" x 3/16" avex rivet in top carrythrough gussets. Therefore the Rivet will be 3/16" diameter..... 1/4" (.250") will indicate grip length. Here's a link for a 3/16th .250" avex rivet.... https://www.fastenal.com/web/products/details/1154...

Re: life span of a pop rivet

Paul....

The rivets Muphy uses are actually called an "Avex Rivet" and NOT a "POP" rivet.

Although an Avex rivet is a "pulled" rivet. .. It certainly is not in the same class as a pop rivet.

Finish your project with good faith in materials selected for the build.

Re: Squaring the Tail Cone

Jerry, We made some jigs from plywood that followed the corner of the bulkhead and captured the bulkhead about 10" down. Simply use spring clamps to hold the jig(s) in place, it took the bowing out of the bulkheads and made drilling the bulkhead center line easier through the cone skins. Don't forge...

Re: Getting Started

Just to set a few things straight...... Jerry.... You wrote, "You are correct. The Rebel, Super Rebel and Moose primarily use pulled rivets, although the spars have regular bucked rivets." That statement is incorrect, the Rebel has NO solid rivets in the wing spars. Garry.... You wrote, "There is ab...

Re: Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing For Sale

MAM has been up for sale for many years now....... this is nothing new. Maybe this time Darryl won't be so stringent over the details and scrooge over the money. These a/c kits could be the next best kit for high wing...... only cause Vans has the low wings. Best of luck to Darryl as usual.
