Re: Floatplane engine falling off
Thanks Monty, I read the article. It was sobering to find that a free fall of 1.6 metes can produce a force of 10-14g's in that instance. I also found it interesting that they had a pelvis and femur of a small human female handy. I agree wholeheartedly that "something has to give" and in crumple zon...

Re: Floatplane engine falling off
Jesse and Biggus thanks for your insight. Jesse: I used the formula for Kinetic Energy and chose the standard convention that upward acceleration was positive and downward acceleration was negative (with respect to the earth). The aircraft wasn't in free fall and I was only interested in what rate o...

Re: Floatplane engine falling off
I watched the video as well and was intrigued. It's not the first time an engine has fallen off any given float plane on a water landing and there is at least one picture out there of another Rebel that lost its engine landing on water. I had this conversation with an engineer friend if mine and he ...

Curt,
If your road trip takes you near Owen Sound Ontario you are welcome to look at mine.
It would take very little persuading for me to take your friend for a flight.

Re: Shudder/vibration
Hmm,
I have never experienced any air frame shudder in the Rebel except when I deliberately stall it.
Even then it is relatively benign.
In short I would consider any air frame shudders or vibrations as abnormal and take a long hard look
at where they may be coming from.
Hope this helps.

Re: life span of a pop rivet
Hi Paul, The onus is on your friend to come up with data to prove his statement. There is no science behind "Smiling and saying look in to it". Next time you talk get him to read over the Murphy manual and give specific instances where he thinks the pulled rivets will fail. Then you have a specific ...

Re: Prop Bolts
Hi John, I Installed a Saber prop spacer and crush plate using Saber bolts this winter along with a new Catto prop. I haven't had a chance to fly with the new assembly yet but Craig Catto recommended that I use the Saber products to instal his prop. Saber's workmanship is top of the line. Wish I cou...

With All Due Respect, My big concern is the fragmentation of the knowledge base that has accumulated over the years and continues to grow. Although some may argue that we live in a free part of the world, there is no impediment to starting any number of "Murphy Sites". What if down the road I am not...

Re: I'll NEVER buy a FLOODED lead acid battery again!
Thanks for the link. I took a while to browse through the Stark website and these batteries look like a great solution for some applications. One thing that concerns me is the following is a quote from the Stark website-Lithium 101-Lithium Cell Chemistry.... "Do not charge lithium-ion at or below fr...
