Re: Ron Shannon

Guys, Let's just cool this. We are talking about two different issues. Ron had a website that documented his build and is and was an excellent example of a build record that set a high standard for new builders. That was not controversial and should be preserved. Mike and I are collaborating on that...

Re: Ron Shannon

Mike,

Please PM me so I can send back the dbase, and other related data privately. I had forgotten I had opened the sql file successfully in 2017 and stopped there. I don't seem to find anything in my records about the Drupal 6 config. The sql file is 15 Mb so I suspect I can just email it to you.

Re: Ron Shannon

Mike,
I will dig into it and try to answer those questions. You and I should probably have a chat about all that and earlier circumstances. Please PM me with a phone number.

Re: Ron Shannon

Rob, The website was a Drupal 6 website, and as best I can tell, Ron lost his ability to access the database (mysql I think) for unknown reasons. I think he hosted this himself at home and probably had some local hosting issue. Not sure. This misadventure occurred after brain surgery and Ron was nev...

Ron Shannon

My friend Ron Shannon passed away April 27, 2020 after an extended period of illness. He built and flew a beautiful Rebel, which I referred to as a show plane when compared to my bush plane. We met when I offered a seat to the community for the Rebel Ramble to Osh in 2007. Ron grabbed it and we beca...

Re: Shudder/vibration

Is it a shudder or a thrumming? A windscreen that pulled forward and left a gap at the top would produce the latter. Been there, done that. A shudder would suggest control surfaces. I would be skeptical about blaming it on the engine - too easy to do. If you have a pre-bias caused by knowing somethi...

Re: EarthX batteries

No experience. However, if you look at the specs provided, they are pretty thin on information. There is no indication of the internal resistance of the battery (hence what fault current it will produce and what you might have to interrupt), how it is protected from the same problems that Boeing enc...

Re: 3D Printed Fairings

Good point and not much topic creep really. Everyone on floats has been watching for that to develop. Probably has to be extruded and sold by the foot. Would have to fit a variety of flying wire sizes I guess, and for safety should be transparent for inspections. If it fit loosely it could simply tu...

Re: Getting Started

The story of Avex vs solid rivets comes up every once in a while. AME's often dislike the Avex rivet - probably a cultural bias. Many non-engineers try to explain that the mandrels fall out or that the Avex are not as strong as solid rivets and therefore replacing Avex with solid gives a better airp...
