Re: Cleaning up aluminum skin

...Several builders have used Everbrite - even on large inside surfaces - it's LIGHT, and easy to fix scratches - just dampen a cloth with it and wipe - it'll dissolve & smooth right out. This makes it great for floats ! ... We used Naptha as the solvent - it's readily available ... ;-) You can add ...

Re: Cleaning up aluminum skin

You are right to avoid any polish containing silicone - or you can never get paint to stick ! :-( Some have had good luck with wool buffing pads - rotary or oscillating - with a sprinkling of ordinary baking flour ... lots of work ! To protect the surface, use Everbrite liquid nylon protectant - $39...

Re: epoxy rivet heads

Hi Larry !
Some builders fill the rivets to look like solids -
they think it looks better !
No need to worry about the mandrels - they are
corrosion resistant - and, if the rivets were dipped
before pulling, they will be sealed with epoxy !

Re: Yukon? Any being made/sold

Wings are all the same size - unless you add the
factory droop tips .....

You could buy a Moose kit & leave off the doublers
that add weight ... making it a SR ... Which should
be OK with a Lyc 360 or larger 4 cyl. ...

Re: Un finished Rebel Kit price

Hi Sheldon ! I have 3 partially completed kits - all in the USA ... You can't import any kit that has parts closed in (tail, wings ..) as MD-RA want everything OPEN for inspection ! You could drill out rivets on smaller parts - elevators, rudder ... much more would be too much work, and risks damage...

Re: primer ** AAaarrrggghhhh !! **

. I can't stand it !! Doesn't ANYBODY <RTFM> anymore ???!!! (OR the Archives !!??) AFAIK, "Real" Zinc Chromate has been ILLEGAL, and NOT for sale in North America for OVER 20 years !! Do not use ANYTHING in 'spray cans' - it is almost always some kind of lacquer -- and it WILL eventually break down ...

Re: Rivet Clearance - and inspections !

Dave - it sounds like the kit you found may have lots of "builder created" parts .... Be careful - maybe you can arrange to visit another builder, to see what things should look like. There are lots in Ontario ... Maybe you can come to a Builders Meeting ... I strongly advise builders to set up an e...

Re: Fuel System Questions

Hi Jerry ! Just me - I would go with just a flush drain on the outer floor (belly), ahead of the tee, so it would be easy to check on walk-around, AND put the gascolator on the low point on the firewall. You do already have flush drains on the wing tanks ... Have seen L shaped brackets used to suppo...

Re: NE WPRO SEAL ON TOP OF OLD PRO SEAL

Yes ! ProSeal suppliers have something called an "Adhesion Enhancer" ...
or some such ... It gets brushed on before adding a second layer of
ProSeal.

Re: ELITE SPECIFIC ANNUAL CONDITION INSPECTION SHEET

Hi Steve ! You could start with the Rebel maintenance manual, found here: http://www.pattersonaerosales.com/Aircraft/Rebel/REBMAIN.pdf Since it IS the "Rebel Elite", most of the Rebel information applies. You should also review all of the Factory Service Bulletins for both the Elite & Rebel - found ...

Re: Invitation - Clarification of Site Status

Hi all ! Just a quick note to clarify the status of THIS site (MurphyBuilders.net). As already announced, Mike is stepping back, not away, and is passing the admin to me. I have a LOT occupying my time right now, with generating sales for Murphy kits, and assisting with the sale of the company, as w...

Re: Engine Control Linkages - Firewall Design

Throttle & mixture cables - sourcing ... Some of the guys here found great service & cables with fork ends at a local tractor supply house ! They would custom cut to whatever length you wanted, fasten on the forks or balls, and only charged about $35 !! They were better quality than the 'aircraft' v...
